The Story
Poster Bottom
Throughout Led Zeppelin’s career, they played at the Chicago Stadium many times, often for several nights in a row. The shows were among Zep’s best and the fans were always worked up to near riots.

Zep launched their midwest tours from Chicago and used the Ambassador East Hotel as their midwest headquarters. After shows in St. Paul, Milwaukee or Detroit, Led Zeppelin would fly back to Chicago for a night of partying.

The 1975 Physical Graffiti Tour and the 1977 Presence Tour would mark the last time that Zeppelin would play at the Chicago Stadium. After a well known fiasco on April 10, 1977, where Jimmy Page mysteriously faded out after an hour and cancelled a sold out Saturday night performance midstream, the band graciously agreed to reschedule the abbreviated show for August 20, 1977. They then quickly added a second show to be played August 21, 1977.

That summer of 1977, Robert Plant and his wife were in a terrible car accident in Greece. The two rescheduled August shows were cancelled and refunded. This set the stage for the 1980’s Part One US Tour for the In Through the Out Door Release three years later.
