When the Led Zeppelin shows had to be cancelled due to the death of John
Bonham tragically and ironically on the same day, September 25th, 1980, these mail order only tickets were never
sent out. Chicago
Stadium sent back ALL of the money orders received. There is a copy of the correspondence enclosed in the return
envelopes under the “Events” section of “The Story”. It
was the creation of the WMET “ROCK BOOK” in 1981 that was the catalyst for
the pursuit of the ticket inventory, as no one had ever seen the tickets until I was able to procure one from my guy
at the Stadium to put on the front cover. My company, Metro Pulse Inc, was contracted to contribute photos and ticket
stubs for display, as well as write the “Ticket Tricks” section of this book, as I was a prominent
ticket broker at the time, and my desire to make it the best it could be prompted me to explore the possibility of
getting one of these tickets to put on the cover, which I was able to do. This was the start of the beginning of the
chain of events that culminated with the purchase of these tickets on Dec 23rd 1986.
Besides the Led Zeppelin concerts I personally attended in the day, I was amazed at the
ticket demand for their concerts, as compared to the other iconic bands that shared their slot in history, this fact
has been recently reinforced by the Guinness World record recently awarded to the band in recognition of having the
greatest demand for a one time music concert, 20 million people for 18,000 seats in Dec of 2007 in London.
At this time in 2007, I was unable to attend the concert in London (I had access to tickets) and
capitalize on the renewed interest in Led Zeppelin to sell my memorabilia tickets because I was fighting for my
life . I had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of throat cancer and was being treated with chemo and radiation
treatments, rendering me unable to travel, or even do business.
I am still recovering, and in this time I realized that the story
of this collectible would have been lost if I had not told the story, AND I RESOLVED TO TELL THE STORY, AND
PUT A REAL PERSON BEHIND THIS COLLECTIBLE, AND CREATE A FITTING TRIBUTE TO THIS GREAT BAND, AND THE CHICAGO STADIUM.
We want to sell the remaining inventory and be done with this project, and wanted to leave a lasting
legacy and visual feast for future generations to appreciate the history and significance of this collectible
by telling the story in pictures and words, this is one of the few original, authentic memorabilia items from the
day available at a reasonable price . Judging from the fact that 20 million people were looking for seats, me thinks
these authentic tickets with their impeccable provenance will prove to be a good investment as well.
Thank you in advance for your time, and your business.
